Whiskey And Irn Bru For Scottish Christmas
Robert Guthrie/youthjournalism.orgA Scottish Christmas tree By Robert Guthrie Reporter YouthJournalism International DUMFRIES, Scotland – The buzz of Christmas – one of the most celebrated festivals in the world – is no different in Scotland with bright lights, inevitably masses of snow and large community celebrations being held throughout the nation. One highlight of Christmas festivities for the majority of Scottish people is the food on offer. Given that Scotland is part of the United Kingdom, the country shares many traditions with England, Wales and Northern Ireland. London 2012 Living Up To The Hype
By Robert Guthrie Reporter Youth Journalism International DUMFRIES, Scotland – The London 2012 Olympic Games were always set to be ‘the greatest show on earth,’ and judging by events so far, it’s certainly living up to being that exactly. With a stunning opening ceremony, medals gained and a spectacular Olympic Park, the Games are well underway. A spectacular opening ceremony showed London to the world with a £27 million – but well worth it – display of British culture, ultimately put together by renowned filmmaker Danny Boyle. Throughout the night, the world saw Britain’s past from rolling rural landscapes to the industrial revolution’s bustling city scene with lifelike smoke chimneys erected in the stadium, pouring out smoke. For me, one of the major highlights was the lighting of the torch. Thankfully, organizers this year didn’t just … Read entire article »

Teens Wowed By Queen’s Diamond Jubilee
By Robert Guthrie Reporter Youth Journalism International DUMFRIES, Scotland – With four days packed with fantastic Diamond Jubilee celebrations – including a massive pageant of ships on the River Thames, a star-studded concert at Buckingham Palace and much more – the United Kingdom marked the 60-year reign of Queen Elizabeth II. As the celebrations wound down, young people weighed in on the festivities. “It was spectacular, actually mind-blowing,” said Euan McIntosh, 16, of Moniaive, Scotland. “I watched the concert merely because Paul McCartney and Elton John were playing. I briefly saw the boat race but had other duties to attend to.” Fleur Robinson of Carrutherstown in Dumfries, Scotland, thoroughly enjoyed the jubilee and gave credit to Queen Elizabeth II. “I think it’s all been good because the queen does a lot for not just our country but … Read entire article »
