Organized by Open Space and various youth-led organizations in partnership with international groups that support youth activities in Uganda, the event focused on employment and kicked off by cleaning part of the slum of Kisenyi. A team of youth led by “Kampala City Yange” members took charge of the cleaning effort in the slum in Mengo, part of the city of Kampala. Representing more than 120 parliaments as well as regional and international organizations, the six day conference that ended earlier this month sought solutions to common concerns under the theme “Parliament and People: Bridging the Gap.” The gathering devoted considerable attention to the situation in the Middle East and called for an immediate end to violence and protection of human rights in Syria, where government forces have killed thousands of protestors in recent months.
