PUCHERT, Mariechen

An Ambassador for Youth Journalism International

Mariechen Puchert

Mariechen is a medical student at the University of Stellenbosch in the Western Cape, South Africa. She hails from East London in the Eastern Province.

From an early age, Mariechen nurtured a love for reading and writing. She considers herself a global citizen for change. She is a firm believer in the value of education, leadership and health for a brighter global future.

In 2009/2010 she was the editor-in-chief for tMATIE, the Tygerberg Campus newspaper. She served on the Tygerberg Student Council for the term 2010/2011 as the Academic Chairperson. She is also a member of the Golden Key International Academic Honour Society.

Mariechen discovered a love for global leadership and travelling in June 2010, when she travelled to Montreal, Canada, to attend the International Rotary Youth Leadership Awards. During the same time she visited Connecticut to meet Youth Journalism International in person for the first time.

In her free time, Mariechen enjoys debating, blogging, sight-seeing, appreciating the little things in life and volunteering at community clinics.
