The massive blizzard that buried the Northeast part of the United States – where Youth Journalism International is headquartered – prompted us to extend the deadline for entries to the 2013 Excellence in Journalism contest.
The new, firm deadline is 11 p.m., Friday, Feb. 15 to accommodate schools that are closed because of the storm.
The contest has several top categories offering beautiful crystal trophies to the winners, including Student Journalist of the Year, Journalism Educator of the Year (enter your teacher!), the Frank Keegan “Take No Prisoners” Award for News for a top-notch news story, the Jacinta Bunnell Award for Commentary and the Courage in Journalism Award.
In addition, there are many categories for news stories, columns, editorials, first person essays, sports coverage, all kinds of photographs, photo illustrations and cartoons. There are additional categories for multimedia – radio or video reports.
Any young person, anywhere, not just Youth Journalism International students, can enter. Contestants must be 19 years of age or younger at the time of publication.
Winners in all categories receive an individualized, custom made certificate affirming their victory.
Entry is all online and it is easy to do. Write to yjicontest@gmail.com with any questions.
