Copenhagen, DENMARK – When I visited Cakenhagen, I had an almost perfect experience. Cakenhagen is a patisserie chain owned by Hotel Nimb and has two locations, one on Vesterbrogade outside of The Tivoli Amusement Park and one inside the park.
The cakes were delicious. I visited not long after the Fastelavn holiday and they still had a surprisingly wide selection of Fastelavn Buns.

But they were distinct since their pastry chef chose a different take on the treat.
Where usually it is a bun filled with cream, they instead deconstructed it and placed the buttery pastry as the base and topped it with citrus curd, lemon verbena cream, meringue, and almond remonce.
The citrus curd gives a nice sour counteract from the lemon verbena cream and the meringue.
The pastry was very buttery – not too hard, but not too soft.
The cakes seemed incredibly fresh and there was a plethora of choices.
They also had a wide tea selection to choose from including Earl Grey, French breakfast – which has a malty, chocolatey flavor – and others. I discovered that the French Breakfast is not a good choice if you are going for a very sweet cake as I found it very malty.
The porcelain is from Danish design companies.

The atmosphere, on the other hand, could do with a slight improvement. It is quite inviting, though the tables are a little uniform and placed in a grid in the Vesterbrogade location.
The location in Tivoli is much a more unique and special experience, but this location is only available when the park is open.
The patisserie within Tivoli also includes some cakes which are themed around the different amusement park rides, including one for the trolley bus that drives around during the summer.
I believe this is one of the best patisseries in Copenhagen. It is well worth a visit.
