The Force Awakens In A Star Wars Newbie

EDINBURGH, United Kingdom – You would have to be living in a cave to not know that the new edition of the Star Wars franchise has entered our galaxy and onto our cinema
screens.

Ok. I admit it. I have never seen a Star Wars film until now. But I must say, it has been extraordinary to watch the millions of people getting excited for the next installment after waiting so long.

A couple of hours after watching the seventh film, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, I can now reflect on what was a pretty good movie. It had all the ingredients to be a thrilling adventure movie with a lot of action, battle scenes and amazing special effects. Being a Star Wars novice, I learned from friends that watching the earlier movies wasn’t required.
There are some parts of the film that are hard to get around if you haven’t been introduced to the franchise. For example, I needed to have the backgrounds and relationships of some characters explained to me.

If it is your first time watching Star Wars, however, the story is easy to grasp with the addition of new characters such as Rey, played by Daisy Ridley, and Finn, played by John Boyega.

But the return of many favorite characters seemed to grip the attention of the old fans. Luke Skywalker’s twin sister, Leia, Han Solo and Chewbacca are among some of the previous cast to make an appearance. In a way, having watched the most recent Star Wars film of the series, I am tempted now to go back and find out more about these characters and how they developed to get to the current stage of events.
I have been told that it is strange to like baddies in the film rather than the good guys, so I guess I’m strange. The new bad guy, Kylo Ren, played by Adam Driver, doesn’t get much screen time but is a good character throughout the film. Unlike his predecessors, he struggles to get the concepts of the job. It’s interesting for the audience, which may have had some
preconceptions about him, to see how he is influenced by new characters and how he changes.
My own views had about Star Wars have now opened up and I am more likely to go and see the next film expected in 2017.
The Force Awakens was an action-packed adventure that only had room to grow into a bigger and better franchise. I look forward to seeing more. I suppose you could say I have been converted to the dark side.
