Homeschooling offers a vast array of opportunities for curriculum, virtual or in-person trips and projects.
I like doing virtual trips primarily, but I travel in-person sometimes and I like setting up experiences or tools based on my learning style.
My learning style is a combination of audio, visual, and tactile. I try to focus on what style suits me best for every day.
Advice that I can give to other homeschoolers is jump in on the social activities through co-ops, community events and the field trips sooner because those are excellent chances for making friends while you are homeschooling.
There are always resources for doing projects with household items. This can be important to help with retaining knowledge through personal hands-on experience.
Don’t be afraid of asking for help from parents. Don’t hesitate because you feel like you don’t have help – you can’t know until you try.
Always remember that SAT ACT, PSA, and AP tests are for homeschoolers, too.
I made that mistake, but there’s so many studying options in homeschooling for testing season. You just have to sign up ahead of time.
There is a significant wait time for accommodations with standardized tests, but it’s easier when you’re knowledgeable about the process.
Utilize all of the curriculums available because there are a variety of free options – and cheap ones that are sometimes free through your local library.
Lastly, YouTube and Khan Academy are your best friends for homeschooling or studying assistance. It can be frustrating when you’re looking for the best videos for you but with patience, you will find what works for you.
Hopefully some of these tips can help you navigate high school as a homeschooler.
