TUCSON, Arizona, U.S.A. — Hello all upcoming freshmen! I hope you are excited for high school because it is truly a great experience. And don’t be worried at all. I am here to give you some tips to help you so that you will be prepared for your first day.
When I started high school, I heard rumors that all the upperclassmen picked on the freshmen and threw them in trash cans.
To tell you the truth, most upperclassmen don’t notice you because they are so caught up in their own business. I know this from experience I’m a junior now.
If you need help finding a classroom and ask one of them, they will most likely help you, but they will definitely not tease you.
One thing that you should do is join clubs. It doesn’t matter what club you join, but joining clubs is a perfect way to meet new people and make friends. I am the president of a club at my school and my little sister is a freshman this year, so I told her and all of her friends to join my club.
Joining sports teams is also great. Not only do you meet friends, like in club, but you get a workout! And for some sports, you don’t have to try out. At my school, the cross country and swim teams let everyone join.
Here is a tip for when you are in class. Raise your hand to volunteer a lot. My teachers get mad when we don’t volunteer to answer questions, so it gives the teacher a good impression of you if you are willing to join a discussion. It also shows that you understand what is going on in class, which the teachers definitely like.
My last tip is to find friends to sit with at lunch. In movies, you always see the new kid sitting in the bathroom stall eating lunch all alone. Even if you don’t know a group of people that well, you can always get to know them better by sitting with them.
Dont be like the people in the movies! Be brave and meet new people by socializing at lunch.
That will be my last tip for you all. I don’t want to tell you everything about high school because part of high school is learning to find things out on your own.
So enjoy your first day. I’m positive that it will be great. Just remember to relax and socialize and you will have an amazing time.
