Teen artist illustrates Ecuador earthquake

Background photos in this artistic illustration by Laura Espinoza Jara show the coastal city of San Clemente, Manabi, one of the places most affected by the devastating earthquake that struck western Ecuador on April 16, killing more than 650 people and injuring thousands more. At the center is the face of the country, YJI artist Laura Espinoza Jara writes, and drawings of buildings that were destroyed. On top of the buildings are boxes labeled with the Spanish words for “water,” “clothes” and “food.” In the center is a hand, ready to help rebuild the nation.
