Curry, who was 80, was known for The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975), It (1990), and Home Alone II.
His was a multi-faceted career lasting over 50 years.
He was nominated for Tony Awards several times and had legions of loyal fans.
I love The Rocky Horror Picture Show because it enacted transformative change in the film industry.
There’s several pieces of media that would not have existed without Curry’s character, Dr. Frank-N-Furter.
The interactivity used to engage the audience in a unique way within the movie made it unforgettable.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show teaches that being different is okay and you can still become successful.
The film gave me courage to strive for my dreams in life because not everyone will ever approve of what you do.
As Dr. Frank-N-Furter, Curry used drag fashion and drag makeup to portray a character who wanted to create a Frankenstein-like creature named Rocky Horror.
Curry changed the trajectory of the film industry and the movie – which introduced many individuals to being more accepting of LGBTQIA+ people – was a milestone for musical horror, a brand new genre.
Thank you, Tim Curry, for revolutionizing horror. This genre changed my life as a disabled 18-year-old who doesn’t get to go places much.
