Youth Journalism International

The contest is ON!
Youth Journalism International’s annual contest for teen journalists, photographers and artists is accepting entries until February 12.
Now in its 12th year, YJI’s worldwide contest is open to any young person aged 19 or under and who is not a professional journalist.
Student work must be in English and published or broadcast during 2020 in a school paper, on a student blog or website, on Instagram or in the local paper/radio or television station.
It is a great opportunity to have good work honored, whether it’s a news story, an opinion column, a cartoon, a podcast, a sports photo or any number of other categories.
Entries in dozens of categories – news stories, opinion writing, essays, sports, reviews, photography, illustration, cartoons and multi-media work – are submitted in an easy online format.
There are awards for winners in every one of dozens of categories as well as five gorgeous crystal trophies for the top awards: Student Journalist of the Year, Journalism Educator of the Year, Courage in Journalism and for the best news story by an individual (the Frank Keegan "Take No Prisoners" Award for New and for commentary (the Jacinta Bunnell Award for Commentary.)
About two dozen professional judges volunteer each year to look at the entries, which are due no later than Friday, Feb. 12, 2021. All the rules and the entry form are available at youthjournalism.org under the "contest" heading. Here is a link.
Youth Journalism International is a New England-based nonprofit that’s been educating young people about journalism since 1994. Award winners are announced in May.
For more information, contact YJI’s executive director, Jackie Majerus, at contest@youthjournalism.org.
